Additional Questions
Are private school vouchers or Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) a priority for Futuro?
No. Vouchers and ESAs are not a policy priority for Futuro. Our focus is on improving access to high-quality public education, which includes district and charter public schools.
We do believe that families deserve the right to choose the best educational path for their children. However, our work centers on strengthening the public education system so that every family has access to excellent public options—no matter their zip code.
Does Futuro support district and charter public schools working together?
Yes. Futuro is a pro-public school coalition-builder.
We believe that all public schools—district and charter—are accountable, and rooted and held to high standards. Our mission is to ensure families across San Antonio have access to high-quality public options that meet their children’s unique needs.
We’re not here to divide—we’re here to bring people together. That means partnering with families, educators, community leaders, and schools of all types to solve challenges and expand opportunity. When public schools work together and focus on the issues that matter most to families, students win.
Are charter schools part of your mission?
Yes. We center our work on the needs of families.
Families know their children best, and sometimes a public charter school offers an innovative approach that better meets a child’s needs. Charter schools are public schools, and when they provide free, high-quality, and accessible options, they can be a critical part of the ecosystem.
We support all public schools—district or charter—that are working to offer strong, accountable, community-driven options. What matters most to us is that families in every part of San Antonio have access to schools that truly work for them.
Who funds Futuro?
Futuro is supported by a diverse mix of local and national philanthropic foundations, and mission-aligned partners. While we are grateful for their support, our work is led locally, grounded in the voices of San Antonio families and students.
